How We Write Scripts That Sound Just Like You
What if you could have podcast scripts that showcase your brand and speak to your ideal clients without having to prepare them yourself? As a podcast scriptwriter, I've developed a proven process for crafting scripts that showcase your expertise and speak directly to your ideal clients, all while making them sound just like you.
Getting to Know You and Your Brand
To write the best scripts for you and your brand, getting a sense of what you stand for, the services you provide, and the results you have given is essential.
Firstly, I want to hear how you describe yourself and your business to others, This looks like diving into your content on social media, your email newsletters, listening to guest episodes you've done, or Instagram lives.
Then, I dive into the material you use with clients. This helps me get an understanding of your approach, your processes, and what makes you unique all depending on the type of business you run. If you are a coach, I will request access to workbooks, modules, and pieces of training. If you are a service provider, I'll ask for standard operating procedures, any onboarding packets you send to clients and previous deliverables.
This discovery process not only saves you time from referencing and going through old archives but also allows you to see your concepts, processes, and results from a different perspective. Because I'm synthesizing your work with fresh eyes, I can make connections that you may not have seen yourself.
Putting words into practice, one of my clients comes to mind. She is a coach with a 1:1 program and a group program. Before even arriving at our first meeting, I already had episode topics in mind from listening to the podcast she'd been a guest on and pulling together ideas from her questionnaire.
As I dug deeper, I took advantage of the robust workbook she uses with her group program students that highlights specific activities she wants her clients to use and what she sees as the benefits of them.
The Curse of Knowledge
Relatability is a key component when it comes to gaining and keeping your listeners. If your audience does not understand the topics you explore, they may move on to another source that gives them further explanation.
The curse of knowledge is the idea that the more you know, the harder it is for you even to fathom what it’s like to not know. You have assumptions about what people must already know and what is already obvious, creating a gap between you and your beginner audience.
One of the major benefits of having me script your episodes is that I am not cursed with the knowledge that you are. I can grow a deep understanding of what you do, but I still can come at the material as an outsider. I can see the processes and thinking that you default to but may not know how to explain. Additionally, I can identify potential questions that may be raised by clients about concepts that may seem intuitive to you, but complicated to them.
One of my clients, who has a brand production agency, creates unique brand images and videos for the people they work with. As we dove into the scripting process, I asked questions about their creative decision process, only to have answers of, "I'm not sure, I just go off vibes.", a sign they are cursed with knowledge. Their skills are so second nature that they can't describe it.
To get around the curse of knowledge, I asked them to walk me through the process and share some specifics about their previous clients. Piece by piece, I started to see how they get results for people and then explained it to them from an outsider's perspective for their episodes.
But because they had my team and me scripting their podcast episodes, they were able to go deep into what they do and how they do it in a way that resonates with their ideal clients.
Matching Your Voice
Our third piece is about ensuring your episode scripts perfectly capture your voice. From the start, I carefully study your unique speaking style, taking note of your sentence structure, favorite phrases, and even your filler words. I pay attention to your language preferences, whether you're comfortable with cursing or prefer to keep things family-friendly.
As I go through my many drafts of your podcast episodes, each time, I ask, "How can I make this sound even more like you?"
I recently finished a batch of client scripts where the last draft was entirely focused on adding more curse words to the episode. I knew that this client would sound too stuffed up if she had to hold herself back from her usual vocabulary.
The Result: Expertly Crafted Scripts Without the Hassle
All of this means that you get to have scripts that sound exactly like you, are all about your expertise, and are written in a way that speaks directly to your ideal client. No one has to know you have a whole team writing them for you.
Because my team and I take the time to deeply understand who you are and what you do, extract the explanations your ideal clients need, and perfect your voice, you can have an incredible podcast without adding hundreds of hours of writing and planning to your schedule.
Your team can focus on other tasks and you can focus on growing your business or going about your life.
